What I Think I May Know For Sure...
We All Get By With A Little Help From Our Friends
Who would have ever thought a brief encounter in a public washroom at Bloor and Young in Toronto would lead to a 25 year friendship! A quarter of a century ago (almost to the date) I was touching up my bright red lipstick before going up a few floors into an ad agency interview, a lady washing her hands beside me was sporting a fabulous beige trench coat (which was all the rage back in the day) and we struck up a conversation. Fast forward 15 minutes, I step into the ad agency lobby and who do you think is at the front desk ushering me into the President's office, the same lady from the washroom!!!
Needless to say I scored the job and a 25 year friendship (still going strong) was in the works that day...
They say the sign of a true friend is someone that volunteers (on their own initiative) to help you move, and follows through with the offer. Tami (whom I fondly call Tam Tam) has helped me pack up during several moves back in my Toronto days, as well in the Vancouver years. When Jason and I tied the knot and consolidated our lives a few years ago (reality bites, I had to give up some of my valuable closet space) not only did she go through the nerve racking task of helping me get rid of lifelong so called "treasures" that had made ten moves too many with me, her partner Marvin helped Jason with his move to the Vancouver downtown digs (from his East End heritage home with narrow doors and hallways, to the small elevators up 20 floors to our new condo high rise, you get the picture, not an easy move).
Today, to our rescue again Tam Tam & Marvin came. Here in the middle of nowhere in Northern Ontario (of all places)! A stop off in Massey Ontario to their new abode ensured we had water for a shower, laundry, coffee and tea, electricity to charge up our devices and a big kitchen that Marvin slaved away in to put a home cooked meal into our system! Tam Tam was able to get the red wine stains out of the Marimekko linen, we celebrated over a few glasses of spiked tea in the airstream!!! My very first "High Tea" in the Tin Can, thrilled the travelling teapot's first guest served was Tam Tam!
Marvellous Marvin Macgyver was able to figure out a temporary fix to our Tin Can water valve challenge, which ensures we will have water tonight when we hit the Bruce Peninsula.
There is nothing like good ole' comfort friends, they are indeed precious and rare.
Thanks Tam Tam for 25 years of laughter & tears, kissing my wounds and making them better over the years!
xo

Love you guys ... your pal Tam Tam
